«La Grange de la Dîme»
The bailiffs posted here by the authorities in Bern imposed a ‘tithe’, a tax equal to one-tenth of the grain harvested by the local inhabitants, which was stored in this building.
Built in 1707, it was subsequently turned into a barn and farm building, then a cabinet-maker’s studio.
The barn was acquired by the Romainmôtier Foundation in 1979, and the space has been dedicated to culture ever since.
