The nave

Pierre Jouvenat

The church is flooded with light. Its height, depth and stripped-back ornamentation create a sense of stability and balance.

The nave and transept are laid out in the form of a cross. This is the oldest part of the church, built around the year 1000 using the mother abbey, the second abbey at Cluny, as a model.

The ceiling, which had to be reconstructed due to fire damage, has Gothic ribbed vaults painted in vivid colours. The figures, archangels and coloured motifs provide a strong contrast with the white walls.
