From Canterbury to Rome on the Via Francigena

From the Early Middle Ages, the Via Francigena was the principal thoroughfare linking northern and southern Europe for merchants, soldiers and pilgrims. 

The Via Francigena is one of the major historical routes leading to the iconic pilgrimage destinations of Christianity: Jerusalem, Santiago de Compostela and Rome.

In Switzerland

The Via Francigena crosses the Jura mountains close to Sainte-Croix. It passes through RomainmĂ´tier before running along the shores of Lake Geneva and leaving Switzerland via the Great Saint Bernard Pass.
