The abbey church was classed as an historic monument in 1900 and given top status as a ‘monument of national interest’. The area around the church has been included in the Federal Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites of National Importance (ISOS) since 2011.
The Cluniac site of Romainmôtier features on the list "Cluny Abbey and the network of Cluniac sites in Europe" presented by the European Federation of Cluniac Sites as part of its candidacy for recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
