«La Tour de l'horloge»
The Clock Tower dates back to the 14th century. It formed part of the fortified walls that set the monks and their way of life apart from the rest of the world, as can still be seen from the defensive openings known as ‘machicolations’ on the outside walls. All that is left of this enclosure is a section of the external wall, between the Clock Tower and the Prior’s House. Several buildings adjoin it including the Tithe Barn and St. George’s Tower.
The Clock Tower houses the oldest bell in the canton of Vaud, cast in 1396. The 18th-century ridge turret underwent major renovation work in 2023.
